Got it and it runs.....but will not idle

So day 1, got the beetle, hauled it on a trailer and got it home. Was able to get it running and it was able to go around the block.....but it won't idle. so the first step is going to be a Carb rebuild. I think it will be a good move to clean it take it apart and make sure it is all correctly functioning before I move to some other potential issue.

Here are a few other details now that I have the beetle.
1. It has its original motor. Numbered and German writing and all...I was very happy about this.
2. The pictures were fairly accurate and everything that I thought was missing is missing....so as expected.
3. The tires need replacing, since one of them has the radial seperating. Would have like to keep these since they look pretty good.
4. The interior is in bad shape....as the pictures indicated but the dashboard is probably not salvageable and the knobs and all are fairly decent and will look great since they are original.
5. I had though one of the chrome sides of the steering wheel was broke but it turns out the original steering wheel is all complete and in good shape.
6. Since the first step is the Carburetor I found it is a SOLEX 30 pict-2

For now that is the extent of new information once I get the carb rebuilt I will be able to do a better assessment of some of the other potential problem areas, like transmission, suspension and steering.

Same ol' issue

Well, frustrated, and finally gave up on trying to figure out spark. Here is what I have done so far all to fix a Bug that will Start, but will not idle. Rebuilt a Carburetor (cleaned and replaced everything that looked bad or not functioning including the idle solenoid) Replaced the Air Filter (just needed it) Replaced the Spark Plugs and Spark Plug wires. Replaced the Points, Rotor, Condenser, Distributor Cap. Replaced the Coil Set the timing Adjusted all the valves Replaced the fuel pump, fuel pump push rod. Replaced the Carburetor (Cleaning & Rebuilding didn't work) So I bought the car, and it would start and run if you kept your foot on the gas, it would not idle. I did all of the steps above and still have the exact same issue. BUT the one good thing everything is new. The only last thing I can do is replace the Distributor and put in a new one. Even through all of the elements of the distributor are new it seems there is not enough spark.  So Step 10. I

Removing the Crankshaft pulley on a 1970 VW bug

Removing the crankshaft or timing pulley from a 1970 VW bug, sounded daunting after reading and researching how it is done. I found this one video that helped. 1st was to remove the NUT which is a 30mm socket and a breaker bar I referenced this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-FIjU5weLg My steps were to do exactly like this video said. Except I added some PB blaster for a day prior, then I removed the back tin, then I removed the center wire form my distributor, wedged the breaker bar against the body and tapped the key to start the engine. I know one of the comments said it is only 33ft, pounds tight and you could damage your engine, but on a 47 year old machine with some built up stickyness. I decided it would work after seeing every video say to do it this way and as long as I didn't start the car and only tapped the key it worked beyond my expectations. Now onto all the other work

So since I have it running, nicely and it is a constant start and run, I am so excited to be able to move onto the other things. 1. Soak the old Carb (maybe I can reuse it soon). 2. everything else. There is so much to do that I don't know where to start. Here are the things going through my head Sanding down the exterior, sand down prep for painting (or at least so it isn't so ugly right now) Working on the interior floors, Take them to metal and coat/protect/paint Sand down the rims, for painting (might need to take them to a powder coater to clean and redo) Replace the Crankshaft pulley & Alternator Pulley, and Belt (Have a new one just need to swap out, but the pulley, as I have read is a bear to remove) Tear down the seats and cover them with new upholstery ( I think I just get seat covers for now and recover them later since I have a lot of work and I am sure being dirty and in and out will not mix with new interior.
